AMC 1965-67 VIN (serial number) decoder

All Marlin bodies were built at the Kenosha Lake Front Plant

All Marlin Serial Number or Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) will be found under the hood on the passenger side of the car stamped on a plate welded on the top of the spring tower.

1965

In 1965, the first number of the seven digit number is the engine code for the car,
2=232-Six,  3 = 287 V-8,  4 = 327 V-8

The remaining six digits are the sequential serial number, starting with 100001 through 110327.
For example 3101832 would mean the following: 287 V-8 and the 1,832 car built during the model year.

NOTE: All 1965 Marlins were manufactured in the Kenosha Plants.

1966

Starting in 1966, AMC went from the 7-digit serial number or VIN to a 13-digit code as follows:
The first 7 digits told about the cars makeup and the remaining 6 digits are the sequential serial number.
